Fiji is one of the major economic and geographically centred countries in the Pacific realm. Fiji lies at longitudinal 180 deg east and has annual temperature of 22deg C to 32deg C. Fiji experiences more rainfall on the south eastern side whereby the western side is relatively dry.

There are 322 islands adding up a total area of 18 ,300km2 inhabited by up to 1 million people. Fiji has a GDP of 16 billion Fijian Dollars.

Main Island Viti Levu has a land area of 10 ,400km 2, with 75% of the Fijian Population residing here. The main ports for international travel and trade are located in Viti Levu. These are Nadi Airport, Nausori Airport, Suva Port , and the Lautoka Port. These ports allow a gateway to the outside world and the base of most of Fiji ’s primary and secondary industries and the tourism world.

Major Cities are Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, and Labasa. Suva the capital is in the southeast of Viti Levu, 3 ,160km northeast of Sydney, and 2 ,120km north of Auckland.

The second largest island Vanua Levu, also known as the North Island , covers an area of 5 ,556km 2. It is mainly involved in Sugar harvesting and production, Forestry, Copra (Coconut) plantations, fisheries and tourism.

Overall Fijis main Industries are tourism, followed by sugar production , agriculture, fisheries and mining .
